SPECIALIZED MINISTRIES

Wednesday Morning Maintenance Crew The Maintenance Crew is a group of men who meet every Wednesday morning to care for Parkview's building and grounds. They paint, fix-up, invent, adjust, build, tear down, mow, fertilize, plant, trim, shovel, change light bulbs&ldots;you name it&ldots;they've probably done it! No reservations or appointments needed - just show up around 8:00 a.m. Highlight of the day: a special dish provided by Loraine Payne. For information call Fred Seybold.

Landscaping Crew Parkview has been blessed with some very dedicated individuals who, over the course of three summers, have cared for the flowerbeds on the west side of the church and in the east courtyard. The beauty they have facilitated has enabled us to have outdoor memorial services, weddings, and receptions. More volunteers are needed. Contact the church office.

Worship Set-up A new ministry has formed within the Worship and Prayer Core Ministry Team. This ministry is responsible for worship set-up. Those on the team decorate our worship space, but they also ensure that the candle holders are clean, the communion table cloths pressed, and the banners attended to. Some people have referred to these folks as Parkview's "church mice." If you are interested in helping call Mary Lou Hughes.

24/7 Prayer Circle This ministry is made up of individuals who feel a sense of call to prayer, and who are willing to receive prayer requests from members, friends and the pastor. All requests are passed around the circle of volunteers, but held in strict confidence. The 24/7 Prayer Circle members meet in the Chapel at 10 am on the second Friday of every month for self-care and nurture, enabling them to better minister to those asking for prayer. Contact Ruth Roehrman or Pastor Steve.

Visitation and Transportation Ministry Parkview Caregivers have volunteered to make visitations to members of the congregation. Our caregivers are here to serve. If you are interested in being a caregiver, please contact Pastor Steve. If you, or someone you knwo, would like a friendly visit, a companion, or are in need of transportation, a phone call, a card or letter, or a listening ear, please call Pastor Steve.

This specialized ministry is provided by Founder and Artistic Director, Walt Lofstrom, and Mary Morrissey, Ass't Artistic Director. Song-CAMP is held Tuesday afternoons 3-6 pm. Volunteers are always needed. If you are interested, contact Carol or Gary Hanson, Program Directors.

SMALL GROUPS FOR LEARNING

Sunday School Children are welcome to participate in worship beginning at 9:30 through the Children's time. Then they are invited to Children's Church led by our Youth and Young Adult Leader, Kate Hoffmeyer. Sunday School will follow for more in depth study of the day's lesson. Sunday School is provided for all ages of children and youth 52 weeks each year. K-5th grade children meet in the Common Room. Middle and High School youth meet in the Mushroom. Laverne Seybold is Sunday School Superintendent assisted by Mary Cline.

Child Care Parkview provides child care for infants and toddlers in the Nursery upstairs from 9:15 am to 10:45 am. A sign-in sheet must be filled out to insure safety of the child. Healthy snacks are available if approved by the parent or responsible adult.

Get Your CREATIVE JUICES Flowing - A Creative Writing Group Creative Juices meets very informally twice a month. We share from our writing, give gentle critiques, discuss writing-related topics, and occasionally do exercises or listen to guest speakers. For the past two years, our group has hosted a Writers' Forum for area authors during Parkview's Fine Arts Festival. Everyone with an interest in writing is most welcome to join us on the first and third Saturdays of each month in the Common Room. For more info contact Lisa Gibson or Sharon Lininger.

Book Club A long-time Parkview tradition, the Book Club meets at 10:00 am on the second Saturday of the month. Book titles are selected by group members, and the book is read prior to the monthly discussion. Members rotate as hosts in their homes. Watch for dates, book titles, and hosts in the monthly Thrust & Parry newsletter, in the Sunday bulletins, and on the "THIS WEEK" information page linked to the church homepage. Contact person is Millie O'Brien.

Intermediate Spanish ... casual style Join an informal group on Thursday mornings as we teach our way through Spanish with the hope of being conversational. We meet each week, practicing what some of us have learned from the Spanish conversational class at the Aurora Center for Active Adults, as well as trying new drills from a variety of different Spanish resources. Thursday mornings at 10 am - noon in the Community Room.

FELLOWSHIP GROUPS

Youth Group for middle and high school youth is a safe place for youth to be who they are. Youth group this year will be a new experience and its direction is yet to be determined. It is a group based in a covenant formed by all of its members on the first gathering of the year. Service, education, fun and community are all a part of the group. See the schedule on the youth news bulletin board across from Fellowship Hall. Sponsors are Penny and Mike Shuler. Contact Kate Hoffmeyer.

Men's Breakfast Group - at a decent hour is a fellowship group of men who meet the second & fourth Thursdays of the month at 9:00 a.m. at Sam's No. 3, 2580 S Havana in Aurora. Members are determined to solve the problems of the world, and need as much input as possible! The group is open to everyone! Contact Joe Reichel.

Movie Group Do you enjoy going to the movies? Do you like to discuss the content of a movie? Are you interested in dining out in different restaurants? If your answers are YES, then Parkview's Movie Group satisfies all three. Each month, usually the 4th Saturday, the Movie Group attends a movie at one of the local theaters and then discuss it as they gather around a restaurant table. Occasionally, a movie is rented, and someone hosts a potluck in their home. Emails are sent to participants the week fo the movie identifying the time and place when the group will meet. Contact the church office for more information.

Dinners For Six This fellowship group enjoys smaller, more intimate gatherings. The host is responsible for setting the date, providing the main course, and for making the plans for the evening. Hosts and dinner guests rotate each month. By the end of the season, you have shared an evening with several different members and friends of Parkview and experienced some wonderful cuisine. Groups meet once a month October - April. Contact Cec and Dick Jensen.

Women Alive This is a monthly fellowship group for women only! Each person is invited to bring a salad to share during an evening of conversation, jokes, laughter, (and who knows what else !!!) except that no Parkview business is allowed. Women Alive meets at rotating homes the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The hostess is announced in Sunday bulletins or can be found on the "THIS WEEK" link from the Parkview homepage. Contact Peg Beatty.

Men's Breakfast Group On the first Friday of each month, several men gather at 7:00 a.m. (yes, that early!) for breakfast and discussion of topics such as current events, sports, politics, and sometimes religion. Feel free to drop in at Sam's No. 3 at 2580 S Havana, Aurora.

Potluck Groups Parkview has its roots in potluck fellowship groups. Many of our charter members who were members of Park Hill Congregational Church in Denver, but lived in Aurora, shared potluck meals. Potluck groups were important in the fellowship life at Park Hill, and Parkview has continued that tradition for 48 years. Two potluck groups continue to meet on a monthly basis in various homes. Hosts provide the main dish, and others bring complementary side dishes. All members and friends of Parkview are welcome!

  • FRIDAY NIGHT POTLUCK meets the 2nd Friday evening / month. Contact Joanie Crandall.
